İcra takibi

Enforcement proceeding

Pronounced: ij-RAH tah-kee-BEE

A state-run collection proceeding opened through an Enforcement Office (İcra Dairesi) to recover a debt — in many cases without first winning a lawsuit.

What it means for you

This is the main way money is actually collected in Türkiye. A payment order is served on the debtor; if they do not file a valid objection in time, the file can move on toward seizing assets. It is faster and cheaper than starting with a court case.

Commonly confused with

It is not a court judgment. An enforcement proceeding runs through an administrative Enforcement Office. If the debtor objects, the proceeding stops and the dispute usually has to go to court to continue.
