HMK

Code of Civil Procedure No. 6100

Pronounced: heh-meh-KAH

The rulebook for how a civil case actually runs in Türkiye — which court, which steps, which deadlines, and what evidence counts.

What it means for you

It decides where you may sue, what must be in the claim, when evidence has to be filed, how expert reports are handled, and the appeal windows. Most cases that go wrong for a foreign party go wrong on procedure, not on the merits, and this is the procedure.

Commonly confused with

It does not tell you whether you are right. HMK governs the process; the substantive answer comes from TBK, TTK or whichever law covers the subject.

Where you meet this word

In every hearing notice, in your lawyer's deadline warnings, and at the end of a judgment where the appeal route is set out.
