The Capital Markets Board — and the Capital Markets Law No. 6362

Pronounced: seh-peh-KAH

In Turkish the same three letters are used for the regulator (Sermaye Piyasası Kurulu) and for the statute it administers (Sermaye Piyasası Kanunu No. 6362).

What it means for you

Anything that looks like investment services, public offerings, funds or listed companies runs through this regime. Carrying on such activity without the Board's authorisation is a criminal offence in its own right, separate from fraud.

Commonly confused with

Read which one is meant from the sentence: an approval or an investigation is the Board; an article number is the Law. The distinction matters in writing, because a duty owed to the Board is not the same as a duty under the Law.

Where you meet this word

In prospectuses and fund documents, in licensing questions, and wherever a business describes itself as offering investments.
