KVKK

Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698

Pronounced: keh-veh-veh-KAH

Türkiye's data protection statute — the rules on collecting, storing and transferring personal data, and the authority that enforces them.

What it means for you

If you employ anyone in Türkiye, run a website that reaches Turkish users, or hold customer records here, it applies to you. It sets lawful bases for processing, registration duties, breach notification and administrative fines.

Commonly confused with

KVKK names both the law and, in everyday use, the authority that applies it. It resembles the GDPR but is not identical — the lawful bases, the transfer rules and the registration duty differ, and assuming they match is a common and expensive error.

Where you meet this word

In every Turkish privacy notice and employment file, and in any request to move data abroad.
